Year 7 Geography Fieldwork Excursion

As part of the Place and Liveability topic, all of Year 7 participated in a Georgraphy fieldwork program at Barangaroo last Friday. Students were actively engaged making observations and collected data to answer the key inquiry question of ‘What approaches can be used to improve the liveability of places’?

Students used the Barangaroo and Millers Point sites to identify characteristics of places considered as “highly liveable” and to suggest strategies for improving liveability. They had the opportunity to use geographic tools including maps, line drawings and photo interpretation, as well as using data collection technology and equipment like sound meters (to measure noise level), anemometers (to measure wind speed) and water testing kits (to measure pH and phosphate levels of the harbour).

The hands-on, practical nature of the program, combined with the students’ enthusiastic approach, made it a wonderful way to spend a sunny Sydney day by the harbour!
