Wellbeing Focus – Respectful Relationships

This week we led wellbeing presentations with students in years 7 to 10 that reinforced those socially responsible behaviours to ensure they are Safe, Respectful and Successful Learners. The focus of our discussions was on:

  • Managing conflict and enjoying respectful interactions with peers.
  • Being an upstander against disrespectful behaviours.
  • Safe and respectful behaviours when using online messages and posts.
  • Successful use of mobile devices at home and school.

We have a wonderful school full of students who are kind and caring, but as adolescents, there are times when some do make silly choices. Our experience is that even nice kids sometimes do things that are not nice, but our role as educators is to teach them appropriate responsible behaviours and good decision making to ensure that everyone enjoys a safe and respectful school atmosphere to learn and grow.

As teachers and parents we need to role model that for our young adolescents and encourage them to be upstanding in respectful ways. Working together, families, students and the school, we will be better placed to support all students as responsible young people. We are truly fortunate to have an inclusive school of lovely students, and working together, we can ensure they continue to grow into socially responsible young adults.
