Timetable for 2018

The NSW Department of Education launched a new student management and financial system for use in all schools. As with all technology driven changes, the implementation was not always smooth but the school has undertaken all areas with determination to make it work.

As part of this change, the Department provided a timetable system called SchoolEdge. Timetabling can be a complicated process as we try to fit the selection of hundreds of kids through many courses and timetable each child in their respective courses with qualified teachers into a set structure of time slots. The process is one traditionally completed in schools but technology has changed the way we approach this.

A fundamental change with the new generation of timetabling is that the school does not define the courses that are running. These are determined by the voting process within student subject choices and preferences. That is, the subjects running are the ones our students wanted to run. Computer algorithms will work out the fairest and best fit in a way that manually, we could never have done before.

The new system has had its issues but the teachers managing and building the timetable have been tenacious in their approach, determined to make it work. We now have a timetable which fits the subjects students have chosen and provides a good spread throughout the 2 week timetable cycle.

All students will be given a copy of their timetable on their first day next term.

As we implement this change, we will see the quicker access to timetables in the future and across our platforms such as MyGymea so that students know before the year starts. We will keep parents and students informed as we bridge the new systems.
