School Shines in NAPLAN

We have already observed that the trend of results for our year 9 groups in NAPLAN are showing improvement in all areas. The school is performing above the state average of public and private schools in most areas of NAPLAN.

In addition to this overall positive performance, the  Australian Curriculum, Assessment and Reporting Authority (ACARA) has advised our school that the growth in student performance from year 7 to year 9 has been significant and we have been identified in a group of 400 schools nationally as  having made great gains. The growth that is presented to us “ an overall gain that exceeds the national average by more than one standard deviation unit”.  It is great being above state average the statistical growth is very significant.

I will quote our correspondence from Robert Randall, Chief Executive Officer ACARA.

“I am pleased to advise that ACARA has identified your school as having demonstrated substantially above average gain in NAPLAN results.

On behalf of ACARA, I would like to extend my congratulations to you and your school community on this achievement. Gains of this magnitude are significant and worthy of highlighting and acknowledgement.”

The continued work that our staff do with explicit teaching and assessment strategies in courses and within our literacy strategy are clearly making great gains. Our students demonstrate a strong sense of connectedness with our school and enjoy the variety of learning opportunities available that have made these outstanding results happen. Learning is much more than Literacy and Numeracy testing but clearly our student’s approach to learning supported by quality teaching at Gymea is making a difference.
