Innovating Technology – Opening of our Visual Studio

Key Points

  • New Visual Studio open for classes in years 7 – 12
  • Eleni Petinos, State Member for Miranda presents the P&C with a cheque of $49 000 to enable the technologies in the school’s Visual Studio.
  • The Visual Studio provides computers, a full 6 metre wide curved screen for an immersive experience with videos and illustrations, wireless Virtual Reality linked to the wide screen projection.

Last year, the school undertook a project in the library to refit a computer space to provide up-to-date technology and allow for increased flexibility for teaching and learning. Our reformed space is now open as our Visual Studio.

The Visual Studio combines a number of technologies to immerse students in learning in unique ways. Eleni Petinos has visited the school on many occasions and is impressed with the students in our school, the connected way they get involved in the development of their school and the amazing things they do with technologies. Eleni has secured a generous grant of $49 000 for the school to fund the technologies used in this amazing learning space.

This week, our prefect leaders, student Virtual Reality Team, staff and the P&C came together to welcome Eleni into the school to exhibit the Visual Studio technologies and accept the wonderful financial contribution she had secured.

The curved screen enables an IMax style movie presentation that will enable anamorphic and 3D movies to better engage students in viewing opportunities. Run by two projectors, the images are brought together onto an anamorphic screen that stands 3.6 metres high and 6 metres wide. Morphed into this technology is a rich experience of virtual reality that allows students to move wirelessly in a virtual space to explore areas of curriculum in a very immersed sense. The IMax style screen allows for all students to see the virtual reality experience in a 2-dimensional way while allowing the teacher to guide the learning experience.

The Visual Studio is a tiered space that also allows those seated to access individual computer terminals allowing presentations and online learning. This makes the learning space very flexible to a wide range of uses and experiences for students.

Students across the school will utilise this space and are already excited and very impressed with this amazing, innovative and one of a kind facility.

Congratulations to all the staff and students involved and a huge vote of thanks to Eleni Petinos for her ongoing Support.
