Physical Activity - Boxing  Summarising and Notetaking workshop

On Tuesday 30 May we ran a HSC Success Support Day for our year 12 students to help them with targeted study and wellbeing strategies. Earlier this term all students participated in Academic and ATAR workshops where they reflected on their performance in their half yearly exams. During these workshops they not only set goals set goals for their HSC year, but also identified areas with their study and time/stress management that they wanted additional help with.

During the HSC Support Day students were divided into groups and participated in five different workshops focused on both study and wellbeing.  Throughout the day students rotated through the five workshops and got to enjoy a healthy lunch prepared by Ms Thorne and her year 10 food technology class.  The workshops were very well received by year 12, who gained a lot of valuable tips about study and looking after themselves during their HSC year.  Students learned about:

  • Note taking and making summaries: This workshop was delivered by Ms Dawkins. Students learned about efficient ways of summarising  making good study notes, which is such an  important skill to help them make the greatest gains with their study.
  • Thinking positively: This workshop was delivered by our school counsellor and psychologist, Catherine Manning. The focus of this workshop was on various strategies to help students manage stress and what they could do when things get too much.
  • Exam technique and preparing for exams: This workshop was delivered by Mrs Koukoutaris. Students worked through activities to help with their organisation in the time leading up to exams, effective study techniques and how to break down questions during the exam.
  • Wellness and settling stress: This workshop was delivered by Dan Wagstaff. The focus of this workshop was a holistic look at wellness, combating stress and maintaining balanced lives. Dan provided tips on nutrition, relaxation, rest, study, work and socialising.
  • Exercise: This workshop was delivered by Mr Ellis. The focus of this workshop was on the importance of regular exercise and the different ways students could make this part of their routine.
