HSC Minimum Standard Testing for Year 10

Last week our year 10 students undertook online tests in reading, writing and numeracy as part of the new minimum requirements for the HSC. Our students did wonderfully with most students in attendance on the day qualifying in reading and numeracy. We expect the outcome of the tests with regard to writing to be available in about 3 weeks.
Students are required to show they meet the HSC minimum standard by passing online tests of basic reading, writing and numeracy skills needed for everyday tasks. For students who sat Year 9 NAPLAN in 2017, the achievement of a band 8 in either reading, writing or numeracy, qualifies them in the standard in the respective tests. Students can sit each test up to twice a year during five-week test windows available each term. Once they pass it, they don’t need to sit it again.

Year 10 approached these tasks in a mature and focused manner which enabled such a high success rate. For those students who did not quite make it, we are now in a position to identify where they need assistance and work with them to achieve that standard at the next round of testing later in the year.

Once all results are back and we have a way forward to support students, we will notify parents of where there child is up to.
