Gymea’s Biggest Morning Tea

On Tuesday 27th June, our prefects and hospitality students with the support of Mrs Sarcia led a whole school initiative to raise awareness and valuable funds to support the work of the Cancer Council. Gymea’s Biggest Morning Tea took on a number of different elements starting with a competition ‘Bake Off’ where staff and students baked and brought into school their favourite morning tea recipe that was judged by a mystery panel.

Congratulations to Mrs Korkidas for the winning entry, a fidget spinner cake.

Staff and students then enjoyed the morning tea with special raffle style competitions providing additional excitement to the initiative. A mufti day provided the opportunity for a gold coin donation that contributed the the funds raised for the Cancer Council.

Congratulations to everyone at Gymea for their part in raising awareness and funds for this worthwhile cause. Gymea’s version of the Cancer Council’s Australia’s Biggest Morning Tea was a chance for us to raise money for a great cause so as to make a real difference to help to fund Cancer Council’s vital research, prevention and support service programs.

Money raised helps to:

  • Provide easy-to-understand information on treatments, practical advice and emotional support to cancer patients and their families.
  • Provide resources to help people in the workplace support a colleague diagnosed with cancer.
  • Make sure there’s a cancer nurse available on 13 11 20 to offer information and support.
  • Provide transport and accommodation for people who need to travel for vital cancer treatment.
  • Connect someone with cancer to a peer support volunteer who has been through a similar experience. Their connection can be a source of tremendous emotional support, as well as the chance to share valuable practical information.
  • Fund a support group where people can meet and share their experiences in an emotionally supportive environment.
  • Support ground-breaking research into new and better ways to prevent, diagnose and treat cancer, with the potential to save thousands of lives.
