Going places in Cricket
For the second year in a row, Samantha Robinson of Year 11 (1st student on the left) has been accepted into the NSW Cricket Academy Female U18 Training program. Players are nominated by their local cricket club (in Samantha’s case, Universities Women’s Cricket Club) and are then invited to attend a trial, which was held at the SCG indoor nets on March 17th, with more than 50 girls from the Sydney metropolitan area taking part.
After being assessed at the trial on their proficiency in bowling, batting and fielding, a squad of 21 players is chosen to participate in the Academy’s intensive training and coaching program, which runs for 12 weeks at both the SCG and the Blacktown International Sports Centre.
At the conclusion of the training and coaching program, the squad then competes at the U18 National Team Trial against Academy teams from around NSW. A team of 12 players plus reserves is then chosen to represent NSW at the U18 National Championships.
This is a great achievement and we wish Samantha all the best.
