Celebrating our Multicultural Day

On Friday 24 November our SLA ran another hugely successful Multicultural Day. This is a special annual event for our school community where we all have the opportunity to celebrate the diversity of culture that makes up our school. It was a fantastic day organised by our SLA team, and their co-ordinators Ms Hines and Mrs Thorne.  Many teachers and students worked together running a variety of cultural stalls and supervised activities. Our year 7 and 8 students had the opportunity to participate in the range of activities throughout the day.

As part of our celebrations, students and staff were invited to come to school dressed in the traditional colours of different countries and enjoy a number of multicultural stalls and activities that were run by students and teachers. These included:

  • Indian Stall where students and staff got to sample delicious traditional samosas prepared by Mrs Suliman.
  • Egyptian Stall run by Mr Meawad and SLA helpers Ashleigh Mason where Falafel, Hummus, Tabbouleh and traditional Egyptian cakes were in abundance and well appreciated.
  • Vietnamese Stall run by Ms T. Le and Ms M. Le with fresh Vietnamese rice paper rolls meticulously prepared by both Ms Le’s.
  • German Outdoor BBQ run by Mr Haas where traditional German sausages were cooked and served for all to enjoy.
  • Aboriginal stall run by Sandra Blackburn, Mrs J. Smith, and SLA members Caitlin Clancy and Marcus Doty. Here, students learned about Aboriginal Art and Culture and had the chance to create their own art.
  • British Stall run by Mrs McKellar and Ms Skeen, where students played a British quiz while enjoying tea and scones.
  • Rock Bands who provided entertainment for us at lunchtime in the amphitheatre.

Again, our Multicultural Day was a wonderful way of promoting, appreciating and learning about different cultures. Many thanks to Mrs Hines, Mrs Thorne and the SLA team for their co-ordination of such a huge and important event involving so many.
