Bon Appetit !

A little piece of Paris was brought to Gymea last week with the library being transformed into a French café allowing students to experience aspects of French culture relating to food and dining.

Our student diners were welcomed with music from a piano accordionist and were able to dance their way into our pop-up café.

They could smell the aromas of baguettes and croissants wafting through the air before they were even served. The students eyed the baskets eagerly, but waited patiently as they were given some information about French culture, French food and French history. Students were serenaded by Giancarlo on his accordian while they were served “un bol de chocolat chaud” (a bowl of hot chocolate), “une tartine avec du beurre et de la confiture” (a slice of a baguette with butter and jam), “un croissant” (a croissant), and “un pain au chocolat” (a chocolate croissant). Upon each serving, students were prompted to use their French speaking skills by asking “Je voudrais un… s’il vous plait” (I would like a … please).

Each session ended with the students exiting the café with some new knowledge about France, with satisfied stomachs, and with their feet dancing to the Can-Can.

Thank you to all the students who attended – many have provided very positive feedback about their experience.  We also acknowledge what a great job the assistants did that day, Brianna, Chelsea, Ashleigh and Katerina. Also special thanks to Callum acting as our photographer.
