The under 15’s Rugby League team played well throughout two very hard games over the past fortnight.
Our boys put up a very brave effort against a much larger and stronger Woolooware side holding them to just one try in the first ten minutes before the weight of possession became too much and we let their large and skilful outside backs score a few quick tries leading into half time. To the boys’ credit they came out a different side in the second half only allowing two tries in and scoring one themselves through Corey Rosenthal. The defensive efforts made by our smaller players such as Shaun Jeffs, Cooper Wells, Nick Wilcox and Kyle Ritchard were inspirational as they chopped down opposition players at least twice their size one after the other.
The team went into the Sylvania game again facing a considerably larger opposition across all positions. Their centres and wingers could have easily filled into our forward pack. Unfortunately we were unable to match our defensive feats of the previous week and found it hard going stopping the roll created by their big men. Despite the score line the boys never gave in and continued to put in 100% until the final whistle, with their determination being summed up in a desperate chase over 50 metres from Alex Kakakios and Kyle Hood to deny Sylvania a runaway try.
Boys, hold your heads up high, you are a very young side with the majority being eligible to play in the under 15’s again next year. You should be proud of your efforts which, hopefully, will produce greater results in the future.
