Spark Festival

A group of years 7-10 kids attended the SPARK festival at UTS and the powerhouse museum to discover the latest in science and technology and enjoy creating some products from them. A combination of coding, interactive and virtual reality activities, Danes, 3D printing were just a few of the activities the kids enjoyed.

It was a very positive and productive day for students as they were able to discover the latest in science and technology and create products from them.

The first session saw students build their own game app as an introduction to coding in Stencyl. This was a fantastic opportunity for them to code a game from scratch. They were able to save and take their games home and work on them as Stencyl is a free downloadable software.

The second session was a “Pop-UP” Steam Space. These were interactive workshops and hands on demonstrations. Students took part in:

– a safe drone flying demonstration

– interact with robots

– Virtual reality

– making a lampshade out of geometric card and mini light

– 3D printing

– Mini design thinking workshop involving creating a robot to solve a problem.

The students were engaged and very enthusiastic. Thank you to the computing staff for their organisation of this enrichment activity.
