A group of indigenous students and some of our prefects attended the Meeting of Two Cultures at Kamay Botany Bay National Park, Kurnell to pay their respects to the traditional custodians of the country and to commemorate the landing of Captain Cook and The First Fleet in Australia over 240 years ago.
This was celebrated by a series of official proceedings. The day commenced with a welcome dance by an Indigenous group – Decendance. It followed with the raising of the Queen Ann Flag by Rodney Fleck & NSW RFS Colour Party and official speeches by Sutherland Shire Mayor, Cr Carmelo Pesce and the Hon. Mark Speakman MP, Minister for Planning Minister for Heritage and Assistant Minister for Planning. The Royal Australian Navy Band performed a series of musical items.
It was a great experience for our students and great to be a part of.
