On Friday 22 May, fifteen enthusiastic Year 10 students were trained to facilitate a “Refugee Camp at School” simulation to be held later this term at Menai High School. They learnt the facts about refugees, refugee camps and resettlement arrangements. The issue was brought to life when two Menai students told of their own difficult journeys to Australia.
Later this term over 250 students from Menai, Gymea, Kirrawee, Engadine and Sylvania High Schools will be led by our Year 10 students through the Refugee Challenge. Our leaders will be running stations which the students will pass through during the simulated refugee camp experience- an excellent opportunity for students to not only understand the facts about refugees but to imagine what it would be like to walk in their shoes.
