On the 21st of March, Gymea Technology High School ran it’s very first Women’s Day, a day to celebrate women and start conversations about gender equality. An assembly organised by school prefect, Alex Martin, along with the prefect body and the SLA, displayed many video campaigns on gender equality, as well as showcasing Emma Watson’s HeForShe speech. The school was also visited by a guest speaker from Amnesty International, Nancy Mills, who spoke about her experiences being a women in the legal system as well as examples of gender equality progression around the world. The assembly closed with 8 senior girls performing the poem by Dr Maya Angelou, “Phenomenal Women”.
The day was a huge success and ended with a morning tea with the guest speaker, female teachers and staff, as well as the prefects all celebrating women.
