About the Languages facility

In languages we have stages, 4, 5 and 6. Stage 4 – Years 7 and 8,?Revolves around being able to talk about yourself, family, friends, pets and leisure activities in the target language. Giving a description of your home and school life in the target language. A basic understanding of food and drink in the target language.

Stage 5 – Years 9 and 10?Extends prior knowledge to useful information if:
You planned to travel to the country you are studying. Topics covered are shopping, asking for and giving directions, getting help and making arrangements.

About the Music Faculty

Music at Gymea High School offers all of Board of Studies mandatory and elective courses in junior and senior years. All courses involve students learning about music through learning experiences in performing, composing and listening in a variety of styles of music. Students are especially encouraged to develop their skills in the performance area on guitar, keyboard, singing, wind and brass instruments or drums. Lessons are available at school for many of these instruments.
We also have a Concert Band, Vocal Group and areas for students to rehearse their own rock bands. The main music room has 28 keyboards integrated into a keyboard lab system, and we have a computer mini lab that is used for composing, practicing and recording music. Students are encouraged to regularly perform at Year Assemblies, Open Night, Presentation Night and Concerts and Talent Quests.

About the Visual Arts Faculty

Visual arts encourage students to understand different kinds of creative works they and others make. Visual arts create interest and enjoyment in the making and studying of art. Visual Arts places great value on the development of student’s intellectual and practical skills, reflection, critical judgment and understanding of art making and critical and historical studies. Visual Arts builds understanding of the role of art, in all forms of media, in contemporary and historical cultures and visual worlds.
