For New Parents:

Just a little insight into high school from a parent's perspective. The transition from primary school to high school is not only something that children have to deal with, it also brings great change for parents! We go from waiting at the gate, talking to teachers as we drop our kids to school and conversing with other parents on our way out, to - dropping the kids at the gate without even getting out of the car. Our contact with teachers is rarely face to face and it seems our kids no longer want our presence at school.

Please be assured that you can still feel connected to the school community if that's what you want. Even though YOUR child says not to come to carnivals, canteen, parent teacher nights or performance nights, don't listen. You CAN do these things, just a little less obtrusively. Your child's friends come to know you if you make an effort to know them and they will normally say hello and have a quick chat.

The teachers at Gymea are very approachable, although there is a process that needs to be followed. If you have a concern then a phone call can be all you need to set your worries at ease. Teachers can usually be reached this way early in the morning, at recess or lunch times. If however you really want to meet the teacher face to face before parent teacher night, then just make an appointment. The school provides a contact list in the first newsletter each term. You will soon realise that it's a really friendly school with great kids and fantastic teachers.

For Everyone:

A good way to be involved in Gymea High Technology High School is to actually attend P&C meetings! Even if you have never been to one before or think its not my sort of thing, why not come along and try it? The meetings keep you in touch with what's happening at the school and you can certainly raise any concerns. It includes parents from all years and parents are encouraged to ask questions or voice their opinion on any matters that are raised. You may feel burnt out after primary school but the demands are far less in high school P&C's. However, we still need parental involvement to keep progressing. We believe that a school thrives only when given support and co-operation from parents. The school and parents should be a team that works together to obtain the necessary resources to create a learning environment and programs that allow children the opportunity to achieve their full potential.

We know time is precious but we hope you can come and be a part of your child's education. See you soon!
