5 students from Gymea Technology High School accompanied Heidi Jarvis (school counsellor) to the Heads Up for Youth Mental Health forum which was held on Wednesday 21st May at Shire Live Church, Sutherland.
Gymea Technology High School was amongst many public and catholic high schools in the Sutherland shire who participated in the forum which focussed on raising awareness, reducing the stigma and developing empathy around mental health challenges. Students were given the opportunity to listen and speak to a number of different people and professional in this field. They:
- heard from two guest speakers who spoke about their own experiences of mental health concerns;
- were able to field questions to a panel of professionals about mental health and wellbeing;
- heard from organisations about how they support youth and families who experience challenges in the community, and
- participated in putting together an action plan for Gymea Technology High School which aims to make some positive change for student’s wellbeing at our school.
