GTHS’s dancers have been busy the last few weeks with numerous performances and opportunities.
Gymea’s two dance companies debuted our signature works for 2016 on Tuesday 14th June in the Sutherland Dance Festival at The Sutherland Entertainment Centre. Company C performed ‘A Sunday Afternoon on the Island of La Grande Jatte’ inspired by French artist, Georges Seurat’s 1884 artwork by the same name. Our Company J performed their piece ‘Burgeon’, an abstract interpretation of the strength and resilience of nature and growth. Family and friends were delighted to see the technical skill and performance quality our dancers have been working so hard throughout the year to achieve.
Last week our dance companies performed at The 2016 Dance Festival, Series Two held at The Seymour Centre, Sydney. The week long program consists of performances from primary and secondary schools who had successfully auditioned for the festival. On Friday night they performed in front of a VIP audience. This annual event allows schools to showcase the wonderful dance programs running in their schools and provides dancers an opportunity to perform in a professional theatre, with highly skilled technicians, lighting and stage crew. Congratulations to our three year 12 dancers Zoe Fuller, Louise Press and Danielle Papakostas on their six year tenure at the festival. We hope you hold dear the memories and experiences. A panel of judges will now view all festival items and successful pieces will be chosen to represent their school in the State Dance Festival held in September. All dancers conducted themselves exceptionally well both on and off stage, making our school proud.
