This term at Gymea THS, students who have an interest and talent for the performing arts were given the chance to present their work for an audience in a talent-quest style showcase. Students in Dance, Drama and Music worked hard all term to prepare an original or appropriated performance for our fundraising project “Create 2016”. The money being raised is going towards a new space under the Hall to act as a dressing room, learning space and a safe cross over point for students who regularly perform on our stage.
‘Create 2016’ was a huge success, raising over $1000 for our project. Audiences were blown away by the high calibre of performances by our students. Those who attended were able to enjoy a variety of acts from stunning dance moves, incredible voices, rocking bands, dramatic players and a fantastic Prefect compere duo of two past Drama, Dance and Music students.
Four trophies were award for skill, dedication and talented execution of performance. For Dance the trophy was awarded to Zoe Wood for her stunning performance of ‘Angel’. For Music, Danielle Papakostos took away the prize for her talented vocal item ‘Songbird’. In Drama the trophy was awarded to Dane Lovell and Katherine Patrizi for their performance of ‘Pain Scale’. Audience members were also able to vote for the “People’s Choice” award. Jesse Elton was awarded the trophy for her performance of ‘Bohemian Rhapsody’, and ‘Dollhouse’ performed but the Year 8 Dance group were extremely pleased to take home the huge Toblerone to share between them.
We thank everyone for their support in this successful venture!
