The Connect2learn project engages our current generation of students with their learning by bringing their own personal contemporary mobile devices to school to use with class activities, tasks and homework.
At Gymea, we believe that these devices enable students to be self-directed with their learning and organisation as well as develop collaborative skills that reinforce both information and basic learning skills. Use of this device will enhance the teaching and learning and facilitate the development 21st century learning skills that better engage students in lifelong learning.
Students will be using their devices to access information, access online learning management tools and share their learning.
What can students bring?
Students can bring personal devices to school to assist with their classroom learning. The type of device is up to the student and parents but needs to be able to connect to the Wifi and manage the restrictions with the department’s internet security. To assist, a device guide is available to download here: Connect2learn Parent Device Guide
Helping choose a device?
For the past 2 years, the school has been working closely with JB Hifi at Miranda and now Carringbah to test the sort of devices that work on the network and assist families in choosing something that will work at school. JB HiFi offer some discounts on devices and on protective equipment. Make sure you let them know you are form Gymea if you choose to shop there.
A range of devices are recommended that vary in price range.
Currently, students are bringing all sorts of devices. There is no preferred device that the school or students are indicating. It is a personal choice.
Do I need to bring a device to school?
It is not compulsory to bring a device to school. The choice is a personal one.
