For the last two years, the Gymea Technology High School Mathematics Department have trialed and implemented a numeracy program providing access to the Mathematics curriculum for all students. The program involves the use of an online learning resource, Essential Assessment, that will be used by your child’s Mathematics teacher in conjunction with their regular classwork and homework. It aims to give us detailed information about areas of strength and areas for improvement on every individual student.
Essential Assessment provides teachers, students and parents with an individualised online tutoring service through:
- An online pre and post-test on every topic to help target the right level of work for students.
- Personalised online self-paced tutoring exercises, called My Numeracy, aimed at building on each individual student’s missed skills from these test
The school has fully funded the program for all students in Years 7 to 10 for the past two years and will continue to do so into the future.
Essential Assessment can be accessed through the website: www.essentialassessment.com.au.
Talk to your child about what they are doing and ask them to log in to show you.
More information will be distributed to parents to help guide students at home.
If you have any questions, please contact the Head Teacher Mrs Edwards in the Mathematics Staffroom on 9521 3244.
