This term our school has continued working with researchers from the University of Wollongong in their “Spaces Research Study”. This is an exciting opportunity as data collected from this study will provide valuable information to the Department of Education about the impact of flexible learning environments on student engagement, student learning, student wellbeing and teacher pedagogy. Last term researchers collected data from focus group discussions with students and teachers, and this term university researchers have collected more data during classroom observations.
Our school’s design2learn project is focussed on improving pedagogy and developing 21st century learning skills in students. The project commenced in 2012 and has involved the design of new modern, progressive and flexible classrooms that have proven to be inspiring and motivating learning environments that have enriched the learning experiences for our students.
Findings from this important research will be used for the future planning of learning spaces upgrades across NSW schools.
