2017 HSC Success

We proudly congratulate our year 12 students of 2017 for their excellent performance and commitment with this year’s Higher School Certificate.  We have many wonderful stories of students overall results and pathways for their post secondary school life. Many students were present in the early hours of the morning on the day of the release of results to share their good news with their teachers and executive. Equally, there was again much to celebrate with significant growth in course areas where teachers and faculties have happily celebrated student achievement and feel proud of the changes and the work that has been made to support year 12.

A comparison of student performance versus state performance across all courses is demonstrating increased positive outcomes and improved results for our students at Gymea with substantial improvements with Mathematics and English as two areas that involve many students across the school. Our year 12 students have worked hard towards these improvements and we commend them for their perseverance and positive outlook.

There is much happening at Gymea that has heightened the focus and performance in academics as well as the extracurricular activities that the school offers our students to develop and achieve to their best.  Engaging our students through clear and supportive processes while exercising a healthy level of disciplined expectations continues to see our students flourish in attitude, skills and performance.

Special Congratulations

Special Congratulations to Joshua Graham who was recognised by the NSW Educations Standards Authority as a Distinguished Achiever in 4 courses – Chemistry, Mathematics Extension 1, Mathematics Extension 2 and Physics. An outstanding achievement!

In Technology

Our Accelerated Information Technology Processes course performed very well in this year’s HSC with above the state average performance and a much more consistent mark range than across the state. Considering that these students completed this course as Year 10 students, they have much to be proud of with this outstanding achievement.

Similarly, our Information Digital Technology student’s outstanding performance identified the opportunities in a technology High School. With the scope of content in this vocational technology course now opening up to networking, we will certainly see even more great results and growth in this area.

In Performing Arts

Our performing arts areas in Dance and Music again shine in the Higher School Certificate with a majority of band 6 and band 5 results across both courses. Dr Hastie who leads the Music Program and Mrs Johnson leading our Dance programs have a long history in achieving such outstanding results. Congratulations to our performing Arts students and to our expert teachers.

In Mathematics

Our Mathematics Higher School Certificate courses have seen a growth in performance over the past two years. Our students are performing above state average in both courses of Mathematics and Mathematics General with over 27% of our students identified as High Achievers in Mathematics General 2 and over 63% of students identified as High Achievers in Mathematics 2 Unit.

We are proud of year 12!

HSC Congratulations
